MidTown
Just on the outskirts of the downtown loop between the Music Row area and the Charlotte Avenue corridor, Midtown is conveniently located between I-40 and I-440.
While many of the foursquare homes built around 1900 still exist, most are now occupied by law offices, salons and other small businesses. Over the last several decades, this area has seen a great deal of commercial development, as well as residential development consisting of a few condominium buildings and a significant number of apartments. Much of the property in the Midtown area is made up of the Vanderbilt University campus and the medical district, which is home to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Monroe Carrel Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt , HCA TriStar Centennial , St. Thomas Midtown Hospital , and numerous physician offices and other health care providers.
With bars and restaurants lining both sides of the road, Division Street really comes to life after hours with more of a locals scene than the honky-tonking tourist scene found downtown. The eateries in this area are as varied as the bars. You will find everything from Nashville’s own hot chicken or pizza by the slice to upscale steakhouses and exquisite Italian cuisine, and everything from ice-cold draft beer on a patio to sophisticated libations at an elegant, pre-Prohibition era speakeasy. Many of the establishments along Division Street also offer live music in the evenings. The Elliston Place district, just a few blocks away, offers more restaurants, bars and live music.
